House Walking: A Guide to Staying Active at Home
Are you finding that getting your steps in during the quarantine difficult? You are not alone! It is known that physical exercise, even just walking, can decrease stress and lead to a healthier life. The team at Arbor Family Health has created a simple guide on how to get your steps in while never leaving the house.
Small amounts add up!
Set several small goals throughout the day, in the end this will add up big time.
A few examples:
- Set a goal to walk for 5-10 minutes every 2 hours from 9am-5pm. By the end of the day you will have completed 25-50 minutes of physical activity.
- Enjoy watching TV? You can set a goal to walk around the house during the commercial breaks!
Where do I walk?
If the weather is nice, you can walk outside but this is not always the case.
We suggest designating a “walking track” around your home to do during your allotted walking time. This can include making laps around the kitchen table, walking into and around each bedroom, and up & down the stairs.
